Washington College Softball is back and set to begin the 2025 campaign on Feb. 25, with their first matchup on the road in a doubleheader versus Marymount University in Arlington, Va.

Last year, the team finished 20-19-1 overall with an 11-5 Centennial Conference record. The Shorewomen cruised to a first place slot in the Conference tournament before falling in the double elimination bracket to Muhlenberg College and Swarthmore College. The team will have a doubleheader rematch with Muhlenberg at home on April 12.

WC will also venture to Kissimmee, Fl. from March 9-14 for their annual spring break trip. The first home contest for this season will be March 19, featuring a doubleheader versus the Catholic University Cardinals. Centennial Conference play opens up just 10 days later when the squad travels to Gettysburg College for a March 29 doubleheader.

To conclude their season, the Shorewomen will clash with Franklin and Marshall College in another doubleheader on April 26.

“We try to go into the season with the expectation that every team we play is not an easy win,” senior outfielder Lilly Cook said. “Everyday we show up to practice with the same goal in mind, and that is to win. We play our game no matter who our competitor is and that contributes a lot to our success”

Cook led the team in several hitting categories including batting average (.352), hits (37), runs batted in (26), doubles (10), and home runs (2) on her way to a first team All-Centennial award.

“I just continue to put in work everyday to get better on and off the field. I know my team has my back and their support helps me feel the most confident to perform when I’m on the field,” Cook said.

Junior utility player Jenna Harper is coming off an outstanding sophomore season as she prepares for her third year with the squad. She led the unit with 138 putouts, while finishing with the second highest batting average (.348) and runs batted in (21). Harper added 16 runs, including a third career home run en route, to a first team All-Centennial nod.

“I’m looking forward to being back on the field playing the sport I love with an amazing group of women who push each other to make each other better and work together to achieve our goals,” Harper said.

Senior Catcher Shannon Rosche and Senior Utility Player Nevaeh Unzueta were also named All-Centennial honorable mentions. The coaching staff, helmed by Sally Snover ‘12 and assisted by Eric Widger and Fran Mazza, were also awarded the Centennial Staff of the Year.

The team will make their regular season home debut on March 19, their first of five home doubleheaders.
