The Student Government Association announced in a campus wide email on Feb. 10 that they will now be accepting petitions for the positions of President and Vice President.
Paper petitions are located in the SGA mailbox outside of the SGA Office in the Goose Nest. Interested candidates must receive 50 signatures to be added to the ballot, which the entire campus will vote on on March 4.
Before the Washington College community makes their decision, students can learn more about those running at the candidate debate on Feb. 26 at 6:30 p.m.
Current SGA President senior Miranda Parrish heavily encourages any person who is interested to pick up a petition before they close on Feb. 24 at 5:00 p.m.
“While there have been some highs and lows as president of the SGA, I have genuinely enjoyed my time as a student representative,” Parrish said. “The boards have been able to accomplish so many great projects, both big and small, and work together to support many students. I have been able to meet so many amazing people, connect people throughout the College and the community, and had the privilege to be invited to events.”
In her role as President, Parrish oversees the SGA Executive Board and meets regularly with campus administration to address student concerns. The Vice President acts as the student liasion for all clubs on campus, helping new organizations through the club creation process and advocating for their needs.
On Feb. 17, the SGA also announced it would be opening nominations for the Speaker of the Senate. This position runs all senatorial convenings and maintains communication with student senators.
Any student may be nominated before the closing date on March 3 at 5:00 p.m. If someone would like to accept their nomination, they will stand for election before the senate on March 4 at 8 p.m. in Goldstein 100.
All of these roles are paid positions through the SGA budget. Any questions about the election process or general duties can be directed to SGA Parliamentarian senior Hunter Frederick at hfrederick2@washcoll.edu.
