Open on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, The Golden Goose provides late-night weekend dining options courtesy of The Met.
While there are dining options, in terms of drinks, they will not be serving alcohol. According to the bartender, The Golden Goose is not currently serving any alcohol because they do not have a bar liquor license yet. The liquor license will be voted on Feb. 25, and once it is approved, the drink menu will include beer, wine, and seltzers.
The menu features a selection of food such as classics such as quesadillas and nachos, several sandwiches and wraps, and signature dishes including fries and sliders. Vegetarian options include the pretzels and cheese, nachos, cheese quesadilla, three-cheese grilled cheese, and the Caterwalk fries, which are Maryland-style fries served with a signature sauce.
Pretzels and cheese are a new option unique to the pub with the dish featuring four pull-apart soft pretzel sticks served with a cheese sauce. Additional condiments such as honey mustard are also available.
“They were good pretzels. Soft pretzels are my favorite food, and I’m thrilled I can purchase them with my dining dollars,” Elm comic artist junior Quinn Hammon said.
The rest of the menu bears a striking similarity to the options available at the Met. While the pub makes these options available later in the evening and on Saturdays, some students were hoping for a wider variety of new options to justify the opening of a new retail location and the re-modeling of the former faculty lounge.
“The options aren’t as variable as they are at the Met,” senior Xavier Smalls said.
Prices range from 5 to 10 dollars, and food can be purchased using dining dollars on the GET app. Non-alcoholic beverages, including sodas and several kinds of non-alcoholic beer, can also be purchased on the GET app, although as of right now these options can only be paid for using a credit card. There is a big push for meal swipes to be another payment option.
“I think they would get a bigger crowd if they allowed meal swipes,” freshman Jilly Lasdin said.
Many signs around the room remind patrons that only those 21 and older can sit at or order from the bar. Students must also remember to bring their government ID and student ID if they intend to order an alcoholic drink.
Food can be ordered ahead on the GET app, then it must be picked up at the pub. Food is delivered by hand, and unlike the Met, is not left out for students to collect at their convenience. Students are free to take the food to-go; however, it is served in paper trays to encourage eating there and enjoying the atmosphere.
So far, The Golden Goose does not seem to be filling a void in campus food options with massive similarities to previous food options such as The Met. There are still options, however, for those particularly craving soft pretzels and chicken wings. Perhaps once the liquor license is sorted out and running it will prove to be a worthy addition to the college campus.
