2025 was a bold one for the music industry, with hit songs and underground artists taking the world by storm. The Grammys was just incredible this year, taking place on Feb. 2.
The most notable and well-earned award went to Beyoncé, who snagged Album of the Year for the first time after being nominated four times previously.
According to CBS News, “Beyoncé entered the night with the most nominations, 11, for her album ‘Cowboy Carter’ — becoming the most-nominated artist in Grammy history with 99 throughout her career.”
Beyoncé also received Best Country Album and Best Country Duo/Group Performance.
Kendrick Lamar won Record of the Year and Song of the Year for the diss track aimed at Drake, “Not Like Us.”
While deserved, it is still scandalous, as, according to Pitchfork, “The gala sang along to a particularly incendiary excerpt for which Lamar’s label is currently facing legal action from Drake as he collected the former prize.”
The rest of the awards continued to suprise, with Chappell Roan winning Best New Artist over Doechii and Sabrina Carpenter. Carpenter and Doechii did not walk away empty handed, though, as the former received the Best Pop Vocal Album and the latter earned the Best Rap Album.
The cereniby only gets more interesting with artists such as Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Post Malone not receiving a single award, which, for Swift and Eilish is unheard of.
After those discoveries, the awards got more predictable when Shakira secured the Best Latin Pop Album with her album “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran.” Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars won the Best Pop Duo or Group Performance for their song “Die with a Smile.”
For the more performing arts viewers, The Best Musical Theater Album went to “Hell’s Kitchen” beating both “The Outsiders” and “The Notebook.” The award for best spoken word poetry album went to Tank and the Bangas for “The Heart, The Mind, The Soul.”
Despite the controversey surrounding the award ceremony, with some people believing other artists were more deserving of certain awards than others, including Beyoncé’s Album of the Year win.
The entire ceremony was incredible with everyone in their best attire and, of course, good music.
According to ABC news, “To further honor the city, the band Dawes, featuring brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith, kicked off the night with a tribute. The two were joined by John Legend, Sheryl Crow, Brad Paisley, Brittany Howard, and St. Vincent to perform ‘I Love L.A.’ by Randy Newman.”
As the 67th Grammys ended with surprises and recognition, many are excited for another year of fantastic music with new albums and songs coming out from many artists.
Keep a lookout for new material from Lady Gaga and Lana Del Rey in the spring. Joe Jonas, Playboi Carti, and Megan Thee Stallion are also all releasing music sometime this year, but the dates are not yet confirmed. Of course, there will be a few surprise albums that may appear as the year continues, so even though the Grammys have concluded, 2025 is still going to be a big year for music.
