This year is sure to be full of exciting music, as many popular and influential artists are set to drop albums in the next few months. It can be hard to keep track of upcoming releases, so here are just a few to have on the radar.
Lady Gaga: “Mayhem”
Following the release of singles “Disease” and “Abracadabra,” Lady Gaga’s seventh album, “Mayhem,” is set to release on March 7.
According to prior Elm coverage, “Abracadabra” signals a return to Gaga’s hyper pop roots, which can only spell good things for fans anticipating the full album.
Soon after its release, “Abracadabra” sparked a TikTok trend of fans learning the choreography from the music video, which has also contributed to the hype for the album.
According to Elle, Gaga herself says that “Mayhem” is “utter chaos” and “breaks a lot of rules.” The album references a wide range of influences, including David Bowie, 90s alternative music, and French electronic dance, among other inspirations.
Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco: “I Said I Love You First”
Actress and singer Selena Gomez, has collaborated with her record producer and fiancé Benny Blanco to create “I Said I Love You First,” which will be available on March 21.
According to ABC News, the pair are excited about the collaboration and feel that working together is the culmination of their relationship.
The singles “Scared of Loving You” and “Call Me When You Break Up,” which features Gracie Abrams, are available to listen to now. The songs deal with different aspects of romantic relationships. “Scared of Loving You” is a slower love song about the singer’s relationship insecurities, while “Call Me When You Break Up” is more upbeat with a message to an ex that has moved on to someone else.
Elton John and Brandi Carlile: “Who Believes in Angels?”
Gomez and Blanco are not the only ones collaborating; Elton John and Brandi Carlile are set to release the album “Who Believes in Angels?” on April 4. The title track is available now.
According to Billboard, John wanted to try something new with this album. “As far as I’m concerned, this is the start of my career,” John said. The 77-year-old singer has been a longtime music icon since the 1970s, and despite his age, he seems to have no intention of quitting anytime soon.
His collaboration with Carlile indicates a desire to share his passion for music with a younger generation. Carlile said that she has idolized John since childhood, and felt both challenged and inspired to work with him on this new album.
Bon Iver: “sABLE, fABLE”
Washington College students may be familiar with Bon Iver after the Theatre and Dance Department’s production of “Bon Iver Fights a Bear” last semester. Sadly, no bears were fought for “SABLE, fABLE,” coming on April 11. It will be the band’s first album since 2019.
According to Rolling Stone, the EP “SABLE,” which released last fall, serves as a preview for the album, which deals with themes of romantic love. In addition to the EP, the single “Everything is Peaceful Love” was recently released for Valentine’s Day.
Several other artists may release new music in the next few months, although specific release dates have not been announced. A few we can expect work from include MARINA, formerly known as Marina and the Diamonds, and Chappell Roan.
MARINA is hinting at an album by recently released a single “Butterfly,” with the unnamed album confirmed for later this year. Chappell Roan has begun an advertising campaign for the release of her single, “The Giver.” The song is planned for August and is highly anticipated after she debuted it on “Saturday Night Live” this past November.
Fans can find the singles streaming now on Spotify, Amazon Music, and Apple Music.
