Washington College women’s lacrosse is in the final stretch of their campaign as they look to make a return to the Centennial Conference tournament.
On April 5, the squad traveled to Muhlenberg College to take on the Mules. The contest went back and forth between the pair of playoff hopefuls. The Shorewomen scored first off a goal from junior attacker Piper Evans. However, the next five goals came from the Mules, who took a 5-1 lead into the intermission.
The second half saw junior attacker Mia Salvatierra make an early splash, scoring just under a minute and a half into the third quarter. She then helped sophomore midfielder Elisabeth Braswell score to trim the deficit to just two goals. Salvatierra scored twice more to tie the game up at 5-5.
After trading scores, the Shorewomen took a 7-6 lead before the Mules took the final two goals of the game to secure the win 8-7.
For the Shorewomen, Salvatierra currently leads the Conference in points per game with 80. Salvatierra became the seventh player in program history to net 80 points or more in a season, scoring the tenth most points in program history with 183. She is third in the Conference in goals, averaging 3.5 goals per game and totaling 49 this season. She is additionally second in assists per game, with 2.2 per contest.

“At the end of the season we have established what [WC] lax is, and by continuing to put in the work and taking it one game at a time we look forward to the rest of the conference games,” sophomore midfielder Lexi Venerra said.
Up next, the Shorewomen take on Franklin and Marshall in a home matchup and the team’s senior day on April 19 at 1 p.m.
The Shorewomen are currently 7-6 overall and 3-2 in CC action. Additionally, the Shorewomen occupy the fifth-best record in the Conference, vying for one of the top six spots to ensure a tournament berth.
