After a dominant stretch that saw the Shorewomen secure three consecutive wins, their momentum was halted with a tough loss against Swarthmore College on March 29.

The team’s recent run, however, was marked by standout performances and career milestones. Senior attacker Tobin Chambers notched her 100th career point in the team’s March 19 victory, and just days later, junior attacker Mia Salvatierra reached a major achievement of her own, surpassing 100 career goals and 150 career points in the March 22 win.

The streak began with a commanding 19-11 victory over Montclair State University on March 19, where the Shorewomen maintained control throughout the match. Salvatierra delivered a career-best performance with seven goals, while senior goalkeeper McKenna Seashole anchored the defense with an impressive 18 saves. The team carried that energy into their Centennial Conference opener on March 22, taking down Dickinson College 15-8. Salvatierra made history in the win, becoming just the 17th player in Shorewomen lacrosse history to reach 100 career goals and surpass 150 all-time points.

“Reaching these milestones means a lot, especially since I have been able to see so many of my current and previous teammates reach them or milestones of their own,” Salvatierra said. “It means a lot personally, but I obviously could not do it without my teammates.”

The Shorewomen continued their winning ways on March 26, with a hard-fought 12-11 victory over Christopher Newport University. In one of their toughest battles yet, WC showed resilience, answering back each time the Captains found the net. Junior attacker Piper Evans and Salvatierra traded scoring plays with Christopher Newport throughout the match, and despite the game being tied at halftime, the Shorewomen’s relentless determination secured them the win.

However, their streak came to an end on March 29 in a decisive 12-11 loss to Swarthmore. The Shorewomen controlled the game early on and held the advantage for most of the matchup, but Swarthmore surged in the fourth quarter, tying the game at 10-10 before netting two late goals.

Junior midfielder Anna Wilson led the team with five goals and nearly forced overtime, but the ball slipped from her stick just before she could score the equalizer. Seashole had another standout performance in goal, recording 16 saves, but Swarthmore ultimately claimed their eighth win of the season.

“Our mindset is the same going into every game: follow the game provided by our incredible coaches and play [WC] lacrosse in its purest form,” Seashole said.

Although falling to 5-6 on the season, the Shorewomen have proven their ability to compete at a high level. As they prepare for the upcoming matchup against Ursinus College on April 2, the team aims to recapture the momentum that fueled their winning streak.
