The Shoremen made recent strides with two wins last week and a third-place finish in the Centennial Conference. Despite their efforts, the team fell to the Bullets on Nov. 1 after a fierce battle to take control of the game.

The team forfeited the opening goal to the Bullets in the fifth minute from a strike 25 yards out. Around two minutes later, a shot from junior forward Simone Perin gave the team a chance at an equalizer, but Gettysburg’s goalie saved his shot. The Bullets took a chance less than five minutes later and got one over the Shoremen, moving up the score to 2-0.

The team delivered a series of attempts with strikes from sophomore and junior midfielders Ethan Watson and Tucker Sprano. Unfortunately, Watson’s shot was saved, and Sprano’s was just shy left of the goal.

With less than two minutes left in the opening half, senior midfielder Tyler Davidson took a final strike at the goal, but his shot did not find the back of the net, and the Shoremen concluded the half trailing the Bullets 2-0.

“The result of the game was not a representation of how the game went,” sophomore forward Jordan Waiganjo said. “We played well, especially after conceding two goals early on.”

The second half was marked with an early struggle for control as neither team found their opponent’s nets. Sophomore goalkeeper Hannes Budde recorded five saves but forfeited a goal in the 60th minute when an opponent shot past him. The Shoremen were down 3-0. They fought to find a goal, but all attempts were just over the cagel.

“We were chasing the game, and it was an uphill battle which we were not able to come back from,” Waiganjo said.

The home side delivered their fourth and final goal in the game’s last seven minutes, taking away the chances of a tie or a win for the Shoremen. The team remained motivated, and Sprano had a chance at the goal with less than five minutes on the clock. His shot was blocked by the home side, and the team concluded their conference games.

“I give all the credit to my teammates who fought throughout the game and the whole season, through the ups and the downs,” Waiganjo said.

While the result was not ideal for the team, they acknowledged their feats this season and look forward to next year. The Shoremen say goodbye to their seniors: Michael Daniello, Tyler Davidson, Dylan Gargulinski, Chris Glendenning, Ryan Sharpley, and Grant Sopa.
