Pancake Breakfast is back. Washington College’s Kappa Sigma Omicron-Phi chapter held their semesterly pancake fundraiser on Saturday, April 11, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in downtown Chestertown. The brothers came together with the community to raise money for the Maryland Veterans Trust Fund.

This semesterly event does not happen overnight. The brothers of Kappa Sigma plan for weeks in advance on everything from the theme to delegated duties. This semester the theme was safari.

“[The pancake breakfast] is a really cool bonding experience because we come together planning this for weeks. The morning of, we all meet in Middle [Hall] basement hyping one another up. Then we come here and work together in our own unique ways, having a lot of fun,” senior Keegan Enzor said.

The brothers got up early in the morning to prepare pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and other goodies. Drinks such as coffee, juice, and water were also available.

Senior Hannah Choi designed the safari themed t-shirts that were available for $20. These proceeds also contribute to the money raised as well as the unlimited breakfast ticket price of $8 at the door or $5 pre-ordered. For continued donations, a GoFundMe is available in the week after the pancake breakfast event.

According to Enzor, they raised over $5000 dollars by the morning of the pancake breakfast. He also expressed that with donations open the rest of the week that he has no doubt they will beat their $6000 record for the pancake breakfast fundraiser.

In downtown Chestertown, Kappa Sigma made their presence known by carrying signs around the Farmers Market with a student wearing a pancake costume, encouraging visitors and community members to come support their event. The brothers drew in quite the crowd as the church had filled tables with people of all kinds of walks of life coming together.

“There is a sense of community having people come from school and town, [including] staff [of WC], employees of other establishments, students… for all [of] us to come together to support the brothers [of Kappa Sigma], it feels good,” junior Renata Williams said.

As always, the pancake breakfast drew students out on an early Saturday morning. The jovial environment and pancakes are a big draw for people attending this event every semester.

“It is always nice to come out and talk to community members, and I love pancakes,” sophomore Mel Harmath said.

If students or community members missed the event this semester, they can always look forward to WC’s Kappa Sigma brothers doing another pancake breakfast fundraiser next semester. It is also worth looking out for other events and fundraisers put on by the brothers by keeping an eye on their Instagram page: @kappasigwac.
